Johnny Storm Gets a Jacket: Human Torch’s Doomsday Redesign

Fans have been trying to get a proper look at Johnny Storm’s new outfit for months, and in the trailers he never stood still long enough. Now a toy has done what the marketing hasn’t: shown the whole thing.

Avengers : Doomsday- The New Look

According to The Direct, a Hasbro Marvel Legends two-pack gives the first full-body view of Joseph Quinn’s Human Torch for Avengers: Doomsday. The figure shows him with flames climbing up his legs, wearing a refreshed version of the retro suit from The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

Detail	What’s Reported
Film	Avengers: Doomsday
Release date	December 18
Character	Johnny Storm / Human Torch (Joseph Quinn)
Base suit	Retro white-and-blue uniform with a “4” logo
New additions	Striped ribbing on the collar, plus a thick blue bomber jacket with white piping
Figure details	Six-inch scale, four flame pieces, two alternate hands
Same set	Vanessa Kirby’s Invisible Woman, including a force shield accessory

Why the Jacket Matters?

Reed Richards wears a similar jacket in the trailer, but his is mostly white with blue at the collar and underarms. The team’s matching outerwear went viral after the first full trailer in July, and some fans even asked Marvel to sell real versions.

The Direct argues the jackets signal a touch of modernity, which fits the story: the team travels from their home universe, Earth-828, to Earth-616. According to the article, the only member without a jacket so far is Ben Grimm.

Why It Took So Long?

The article traces Johnny’s costume across a handful of teases. A crew wrap gift bag showed small, blurry artwork of 28 characters. The trailer offered only a glimpse, since Johnny’s biggest moment was a close-up of him clutching Franklin Richards. Posters didn’t show the full outfit either. The toy finally changes that.

A Big Change From the Fox Era

It also stands in sharp contrast to the Fox films. Chris Evans’ Johnny wore a dark blue, body-hugging suit, which was a far cry from the comic version.

Doomsday’s Costume Makeover Trend

The Direct says Johnny isn’t the only one getting an upgrade:

X-Men: James Marsden’s Cyclops has a blue-and-yellow suit close to his X-Men ‘97 look. Magneto wears red robes, Nightcrawler has new swords, and Mystique has white regalia.
New Avengers: Yelena Belova, Bucky Barnes, U.S. Agent and Ghost have new jumpsuits, and Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson leads the team as Captain America.
Wakanda: Namor’s and Shuri’s costumes now share design touches, which fans read as shared technology.

Why It Matters?

The Fantastic Four are central to Doctor Doom’s story, so every detail of their look is being studied. Seeing the whole team in an updated style signals that Marvel wants the film to feel like a fresh meeting of two universes.

Conclusion

It’s a small thing, but a good jacket can become an iconic piece of costume design. If the response to the trailer is any guide, this one may end up on a lot of fans’ wish lists. Now we just need to see Johnny use it in action.
