Ryan Bertrand to join Leicester City on a free transfer

Leicester City’s search for a left-back has ended, as the Foxes have agreed on a deal with Ryan Bertrand. The player will join the club as a free agent, signing a two-year contract until 2023 with the option for another year.

The transfer has been given the ‘here we go’ signal by renowned transfer insider Fabrizio Romano. The official announcement by Leicester can now be expected in the next few days. Numerous clubs were in the race for the player, but he chose Brendan Rodgers’ team as his next project.

Bertrand came through the ranks at the Chelsea academy and spent numerous spells out on loan. The player was loaned out to Norwich, Reading, Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa before he was given a chance in the first team.

Then operating as a winger, Bertrand started for the Blues in their miraculous 2012 Champions League title victory against Bayern Munich. He was then let go of, as Southampton signed him permanently after initially joining on a loan spell.

At 31, Bertrand can bring a lot of experience to the team, having made over 250 Premier League appearances in total. He will also provide competition to Thomas Justin, who started the majority of the games in the left-back position. The youngster could also learn a lot from a player of his profile, especially given that they will be competing in Europe again.

Leicester also confirmed the signing of Patson Daka from RB Salzburg and are yet to officially announce the signing of Boubakary Soumare.
