Arsenal are hoping to complete the signing of Ben White in the next few days, as negotiations between them and Brighton continue to develop.
Brighton are demanding £50 million for the player up front, but Arsenal has most recently offered them £45 million straight, plus £5 million in add-ons. They previously had a bid for £40 million rejected by the Seagulls since they are firm on their asking price.Â
According to David Ornstein of the Athletic, the relations between the two parties are powerful. And hence, an agreement for the player’s transfer could be imminent. Although they have rejected Arsenal’s first bid for the defender, they are willing to continue negotiations if Arsenal concedes to their demands.Â
No other club is in the race for the player yet, and he could be Arsenal’s most expensive defensive signing even if the move goes through. Mikel Arteta views White as the long-term candidate to be the right centre-back at the club, and he is a great fit for the Spaniard’s style of play.
He is being chosen over the likes of Joules Kounde of Sevilla due to his familiarity with English football. White was recently called up to the England squad as a replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold, who missed out on the Euros due to injury.Â
The 23-year-old impressed in 19/20, helping Leeds United back up to the Premier League after 16 years. He was also crucial for Graham Potter this past season, and despite being only 23, he is one of the most talented defenders in the league.Â
