Most hospital dramas open with a crisis. Doctor X opens with a very blunt opinion. The newly released Episode 1 clip shows exactly who Gye Soo Jung is: fearless, unfiltered and completely uninterested in hospital politics.

Meet Gye Soo Jung

She is a freelance surgeon sent by a medical staff agency to fill a gap in the hospital’s surgical department. Her obsession with operating has earned her the nickname “the crazy Gye of the operating room,” a pun on the Korean word for “dog.”

The Clip: Honesty Without a Filter

In front of surgical professor Bae Heung Gon and senior resident Ma Sung Gyu, Soo Jung announces she doesn’t like them, and the room freezes. She then lays into them as people who studied only for money and status, lacking ethics or convictions, who bow to their seniors, look down on patients and blame “the system.” Her verdict is that they are pathetic, and that being “just doctors” isn’t enough.

The Perfect Punchline

Bae Heung Gon loses his temper and orders her out. Soo Jung calmly picks up her bag and leaves. The twist comes from intern Park Tae Kyung, who realizes she isn’t obeying anyone. It’s simply 6 p.m., and her workday is over. It’s a small detail that says everything about her.
