South Korea has just unveiled its five-year project for their development of core technologies for 6G telecommunications technology. The government is investing heavily, to the tune of 220 billion won(worth $193 million).
As per AjuDaily, South Korea is stepping up its efforts for carrying on joint research and cooperation with the USA. The nation intends to achieve the world’s first commercialization of 6G mobile technology by 2028. This investment was announced earlier today at a 6G strategy meeting that was attended by experts, company officials, and government officials as well.
Science and ICT Minister Lim Hye-Sook stated in the conference that their next-generation mobile network is the foundation of digital innovation, it is their duty to play a bold and challenging role in order to lead the international market in the 6th generation era based on their experience and know-how in the network field.
This report also added a 6G network can only be commercialized when a high-performance network on the ground and satellite communication are combined.
Researchers have also called for the early development of 6G related tech while companies have tied up with the research bodies to secure core 6G technologies. The Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute(ETRI) stated that it is working on the terahertz (THz) frequency band that could potentially provide a way to meet 6G requirements of TB per second transfer rates.
Recently reports of Samsung also beginning its research on 6G had emerged.
