“Avengers: Endgame: Encore” Runtimes Reveal Exactly How Much New Footage — and Doomsday Sneak Peek — Fans Are Getting

Marvel fans counting down to the September 25 re-release of “Avengers: Endgame” finally have hard numbers to work with. New runtime details confirm precisely how much bonus content comes with “Avengers Endgame: Encore” — including the exclusive first look at “Avengers: Doomsday.”

The exact runtime breakdown?

According to a runtime report shared by X user Amit Chaudhari, the standard theatrical version of “Encore” runs 3 hours, 3 minutes, and 9 seconds. The IMAX and Infinity Vision versions run longer, at 3 hours, 6 minutes, and 9 seconds.

Since the original “Endgame” clocked in at 3 hours, 1 minute, and 11 seconds, that math reveals something concrete: the standard “Encore” cut adds 1 minute and 58 seconds of new footage, while IMAX and Infinity Vision screenings tack on an additional 3 minutes exclusively for “Doomsday” footage — bringing the total new content in premium formats to 4 minutes and 58 seconds.

How this compares to 2019’s re-release?

This isn’t Marvel’s first attempt at bringing “Endgame” back to theaters. A 2019 re-release, just two months after the original, added a director’s message, an unfinished deleted Smart Hulk scene, a Stan Lee tribute, and a brief “Spider-Man: Far From Home” preview — totaling 6 minutes and 20 seconds of extra content. That version was widely considered underwhelming, since most of the added time wasn’t new story footage at all.

“Encore” appears designed to avoid that mistake. Rather than padding runtime with tributes, its added minutes are likely to deliver actual new material tied to Steve Rogers, given his central role in “Doomsday” and his looming rivalry with Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom.

What might actually be shown?

It’s unlikely Marvel revisits the unfinished Smart Hulk scene from 2019, especially since Savage Hulk is set to return in “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” instead. More probable: unused or reworked footage involving Steve Rogers that quietly sets up threads for “Doomsday,” rather than covering ground already promised for the new film — like his return of the Infinity Stones and reunion with an alternate Peggy Carter.

This kind of theatrical re-release strategy, blending nostalgia with fresh promotional content, has become increasingly common across the film industry as studios look to re-engage audiences ahead of major franchise releases.
