Pakistan Hesson Coach Appointment: Seven Players Sent Home After

Pakistan Hesson Coach has sent seven players home and brought in Mike Hesson to coach the Test side after their 2-0 series defeat to England. The PCB’s decision comes with the third Test scheduled to start on September 9, leaving the touring party in a state of flux.

The shake-up follows a disappointing campaign where England sealed the series with two comprehensive victories. Pakistan‘s management has responded with sweeping changes, opting for a fresh coaching voice in Hesson while trimming the squad for the final match of the tour.

The Pakistan Hesson Coaching Move Explained

Mike Hesson brings a wealth of international experience to the role, having previously coached New Zealand‘s national team across all formats. His appointment signals a clear intent from the PCB to stabilise a test side that has struggled for consistency in recent months.

The former Black Caps coach is known for his analytical approach and ability to develop young talent. Pakistan’s selectors will hope his methods translate quickly, especially with a crucial home season looming later this year. Here’s the thing: Hesson’s arrival mid-series is unusual, but it reflects the urgency Pakistan feel about their Test fortunes. The coaching change is paired with a significant squad reduction, suggesting a reset rather than a minor tweak.

Seven Players Sent Home: Squad Overhaul Details

The seven players departing the tour represent a mix of experience and youth, though the PCB has not publicly detailed the full list of names. Reports suggest the decision was performance-based, with the management keen to send a clear message about standards.

Each route carries risk. Tighter clauses can breed resentment, mentorship depends on Pakistan Hesson’s rapport with the squad, and sending players home early might dent morale. Yet Pakistan’s leadership clearly believes the benefits outweigh the potential downsides.

The move also frees up space for emerging talent to gain exposure at the highest level. With the third Test now a dead rubber, the management may use the opportunity to blood younger players ahead of future assignments.

What This Means for Pakistan’s Test Future

Pakistan’s Test cricket has faced mounting scrutiny, with this England series exposing familiar frailties in both batting and bowling. The decision to overhaul the coaching setup and trim the squad reflects a broader desire for accountability. Worth noting: Hesson inherits a side that has shown flashes of quality but has lacked the ruthlessness required at Test level.

His immediate task will be to restore confidence and implement a clearer game plan for the final match of the series. The third Test starting September 9 offers Pakistan a chance to end the tour on a positive note. A competitive showing would give Hesson something to build on, while another heavy defeat would deepen the questions surrounding the team’s direction. For fans, the coming days will bring clarity on the players heading home and the composition of the squad for the final Test. The PCB’s next announcement will confirm the full extent of this restructuring. Full coverage via BBC Sport.

Conclusion: A Bold Reset for Pakistan’s Test Side

The Pakistan Hesson appointment and the decision to send seven players home mark a significant moment for the national team. It is a bold, potentially transformative move that prioritises long-term growth over short-term results. With the third Test beginning September 9, all eyes will be on how this reshaped squad responds under new leadership. The outcome could shape Pakistan’s Test strategy for years to come.
