Galaxy S27 Base Model Leaked: Same Look, New Camera Sensor

While the Galaxy S27 Ultra’s redesign has dominated headlines with its bold new camera plateau, the base Galaxy S27 just leaked in full CAD renders — and Samsung is taking the opposite approach here entirely. Reliable leaker @OnLeaks has published high-resolution images showing a phone that looks almost identical to its predecessor, with the real changes hiding underneath the shell.

Galaxy S27 Base Model Leaked: No Camera Plateau Here

Unlike the S27 Ultra’s iPhone 17 Pro-style camera island spanning the phone’s full width, the base Galaxy S27 keeps its familiar pill-shaped triple-camera module — the same vertical layout Samsung has used for years. That design choice means the phone will still rock slightly when placed flat on a table, a minor but persistent quirk of the current design. Leaked Specifications

Compared to the Galaxy S26’s 149.6 x 71.7 x 7.2mm footprint, the changes are genuinely marginal — fractions of a millimeter you’re unlikely to notice while holding the phone.

The Real Story: A New Camera Sensor

The most meaningful change isn’t visible in the renders at all. Samsung is reportedly testing a Sony-made main camera sensor for the base Galaxy S27, a shift away from its own ISOCELL hardware that’s powered the standard S-series for over five years. It’s worth noting a similar Sony-sensor rumor also surfaced during Galaxy S25 development and didn’t make it into the final phone — so this remains a genuine possibility rather than a locked-in certainty. For Samsung’s official product announcements when they arrive, check the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked page.

A Real Battery Upgrade

The jump to a 4,900mAh Silicon-Carbon battery is a meaningful one — roughly a 14% capacity increase over comparable current-gen batteries, achieved using the same Silicon-Carbon technology Samsung has already deployed on its foldables. Silicon-Carbon cells pack more energy into the same physical space, so this is a genuine engineering upgrade rather than just a bigger battery brick.

Why Samsung Might Be Playing It Safe

With the S27 Ultra already drawing plenty of attention (and some controversy) for its dramatic camera redesign, keeping the base model’s exterior familiar could be a deliberate move — letting Samsung test bolder design language on its flagship while giving cautious buyers a safer, more predictable option. Whether that reads as “reliable” or “uninspired” will likely depend on which camp you’re in.

What’s Still Unconfirmed

Samsung hasn’t officially announced the Galaxy S27 series, and none of this hardware is final — these are CAD-based renders and component-level leaks, not confirmed specifications. Galaxy Unpacked 2027 is expected in January or February, so expect more leaks in the coming months as launch approaches.
