Hawkins’ animated corner of the Stranger Things universe is heading back into the Upside Down sooner than fans might expect. Stranger Things: Tales from ’85 has confirmed its second season will premiere on Netflix on September 17, 2026, arriving alongside a new trailer packed with fresh scares.

A Fast Turnaround for an Animated Spinoff

Unlike the long waits between mainline Stranger Things seasons, Tales from ’85 has moved quickly. The animated spinoff first premiered in April 2026, with a season 2 renewal confirmed just weeks later. That renewal came despite modest viewership numbers for a series tied to Netflix’s flagship franchise, with the first season logging a relatively short run in the platform’s Top 10 charts.

What’s Coming in Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 Season 2

Picking up right after season 1’s cliffhanger, the new season trades episode volume for tighter pacing, dropping from 10 episodes down to 8. Netflix’s official logline teases a Valentine’s Day setting disrupted by ghostly apparitions and “hate sprites,” with the Hawkins Investigators Club racing to stop a new gate to the Upside Down from tearing open.

The new trailer shows the crew investigating glowing blue flowers blooming in the dead of winter, using an Ouija board to probe the paranormal activity, and eventually confronting a massive, neon-blue Upside Down creature that seems immune to Eleven’s powers. Showrunner Eric Robles revealed that mysterious flowers spreading across Hawkins tie into a subplot involving two of the show’s newer characters, Nikki and Max, scheming to sell them around town — inadvertently making the problem worse.

Robles also confirmed the season will explore new territory, including a previously unseen mine beneath Hawkins, while executive producer Ian Graham pointed to classic Spielberg- and Lucas-era filmmaking as the visual touchstone the animated series continues to draw from.

A Season Built on Unfinished Business

Season 1 ended with a chilling final image: a glowing stem bursting from the defeated Horde Queen’s corpse in the Upside Down, unfurling into the shape of a Demogorgon. Robles described it as the seed of an entirely new chapter for the series, and season 2 appears to build directly on that threat, introducing more monstrous hybrids born from spores released by the Upside Down’s dying creatures.

The timing lines up with a big year for the franchise more broadly — Stranger Things recently marked its 10th anniversary, and Netflix has leaned hard into the milestone with retrospectives and nostalgia-driven releases throughout the year.
