Revenge road trips rarely go according to plan — and this one derails within the first few minutes. The new teaser for The Journey to Gyeongju opens with mother Ok Sil (Lee Jung Eun) collapsed on the floor, delivering the line that sets the entire film in motion: “We kidnapped a murderer.”
The film follows a mother and her three daughters who, after eight years of waiting, finally get their shot at justice for the youngest daughter, Gyeong Ju, who never returned from a school trip. Their destination is Gyeongju, the historic South Korean city that gives the film its name — except the road there is anything but smooth.
The Journey To Gyeongju: Meet The Family Behind The Mission
| Character | Actor | Role In The Plan |
|---|---|---|
| Ok Sil (Mother) | Lee Jung Eun | The mastermind who plots the entire revenge |
| Jang Ju (Eldest daughter) | Kong Hyo Jin | Quietly follows her mother’s lead |
| Young Ju (Second daughter) | Park So Dam | The strategist, builds the perfect alibi |
| Dong Ju (Third daughter) | Lee Yeon | Bold and impulsive, charges in first |
Things go sideways almost immediately — the family takes a wrong highway entrance and loses 56 precious minutes before their captive, the murderer, wakes up from sedation and fights back, forcing a chaotic chase. Amid the tension, the trailer sneaks in real emotional weight: Jang Ju’s quiet confession that she just wants to be happy again, and Ok Sil’s chilling resolve that killing him is the only way her family can start over.
Adding intrigue to the mix, Byun Yo Han shows up in the final seconds wearing a police uniform, hinting at a complication the family didn’t see coming.
The Journey to Gyeongju hits Korean theaters on August 26.
