Minerva Academy: Netflix’s New Italian Drama Where Discipline Meets Teenage Chaos

No phones, no romance, dawn wake-up calls — and somewhere in the middle of all that rigidity, a missing student. Netflix’s new Italian series Minerva Academy just landed its global release date, and the setup alone makes it one of the more unusual coming-of-age dramas on the platform’s 2026 slate.

When and Where It’s Set

Minerva – The School arrives globally on Netflix on September 22, with all 8 episodes dropping at once. The show is set inside a military high school in Naples and was partly filmed at the historic Royal Palace of Portici. It premiered ahead of release at the Giffoni Film Festival, giving fans and press an early look.

What the Show Is Actually About

The series follows students navigating a world of flag-raising ceremonies, banned phones, forbidden relationships, and military-style discipline — all while adults on staff quietly wrestle with their own pasts. A central mystery runs through the season: one student enrolls specifically to uncover the truth behind a missing best friend, giving the drama an added mystery layer beyond typical coming-of-age storytelling.

Minerva Academy: Meet the Cast

The Team Behind It

Directed by Ivan Silvestrini, known for helming the entire run of the hit series Mare Fuori, Minerva Academy is written by a four-person team and produced by Roberto Sessa for Picomedia. The production took roughly five months, with the cast undergoing physical training to match the show’s military setting — a detail inspired by real institutions similar to Naples’ historic Nunziatella military school.
