Bullets, Bombs, and Broken Bonds: Is Elite Force Worth the Watch?

Julien Leclercq built his Netflix reputation on adrenaline, and his newest series doesn’t stray far from that formula. “Elite Force” throws viewers straight into the world of France’s real-life counterterrorism unit — but this time, the tension isn’t just tactical. It’s personal.

Elite Force : The Basics

What It’s About

The show follows David Caron, a veteran officer nearing the end of his field career, as he’s unexpectedly tasked with mentoring his godson, a new recruit with a painful connection to David’s past. Just as new members join the unit, a shadowy terrorist group with military-grade explosives begins targeting the squad, forcing old wounds and buried secrets to resurface.

What sets “Elite Force” apart is its access. Leclercq previously directed a film based on a real hostage crisis handled by GIGN, and that same authenticity carries into this series. The tactical sequences — bomb defusal, hostage negotiations, tight team coordination — feel genuinely grounded rather than exaggerated for effect.

The Good and the Not-So-Good

The action is the clear standout. Leclercq knows how to choreograph high-stakes operations that feel tense and real, not just loud. But the show spends just as much time on David’s family life — his marriage, his daughter, his strained relationship with his godson — and that side of the story takes longer to land. Early episodes feel a bit flat emotionally, and the godson character doesn’t get enough depth to fully stand out beyond being the rookie who keeps bending the rules.

Still, strong supporting performances, tense internal-affairs scenes, and a moody score help balance out those rough patches. By the back half, the family drama and the action plot start working together rather than competing for attention.

Should You Watch It?

If you enjoyed “Ganglands” or shows like “Fauda,” this is worth a watch — just don’t expect the emotional depth to click immediately. It builds.
