A Birthday Cake, Two Kisses, and a Marriage on the Brink: Inside “The Husband”

Before things fall apart, there’s always a moment of pure happiness. That’s exactly what KBS 2TV’s new thriller The Husband just gave fans — a glimpse of the family Kang Tae Joo is desperately fighting to save, back when everything was still whole.

What the New Stills Show

The freshly released photos capture Namkoong Min as Kang Tae Joo and his on-screen wife Go Se Yoon, played by Lee Seol, celebrating their daughter’s birthday. Balloons, flowers, and cake fill the frame as the couple leans in to kiss their daughter on both cheeks, beaming with love. Tae Joo even records the moment on his phone, a small but telling detail about the kind of father — and husband — he used to be before everything unraveled.

That warmth makes for a jarring contrast once you remember the present-day storyline: a man on the brink of divorce, pulled into a life-or-death standoff with a dangerous criminal to save the very woman in these photos.

Why This Scene Hits Different

Flashback-style stills like these do double duty — they build emotional stakes while teasing the mystery of what actually tore this family apart. Fans are now piecing together theories on how the once-happy Tae Joo and Se Yoon ended up on opposite sides of a crisis, and whether that bond is repairable at all.

While waiting for Wednesday’s episode, viewers can catch Namkoong Min in The Veil or Lee Seol in Between Him and Her, both streaming on Viki.
