Main Vaapas Aaunga’s 4th Weekend Slows Down, But Rs 60 Crore Finish Line Is Still Within Reach

Imtiaz Ali’s slow-burn romantic drama “Main Vaapas Aaunga” hit a speed bump in its fourth weekend, but the film’s overall journey remains a genuine box office turnaround story. The film added Rs 1.75 crore on its 4th Sunday, keeping the weekend flat and taking the total 4th weekend collection to just Rs 4.50 crore — a sharp drop compared to its previous weekends.

The biggest reason behind this dip? Lost screens to the new Alia Bhatt-Sharvari starrer “Alpha.” However, since Alpha hasn’t quite struck a chord with audiences, “Main Vaapas Aaunga” could see some of those screens return in the coming days.

Given this sharper-than-expected drop, the film now looks set to finish well below its earlier projected Rs 70 crore nett target. Current trends suggest a more realistic lifetime closing somewhere between Rs 60-65 crore nett. Even so, that’s a remarkable turnaround for a film that opened to just Rs 1 crore — though given its relatively high production cost, it will likely miss out on a “Clean Hit” verdict.

Adding to the pressure, the film will keep facing new releases week after week, making its remaining run anything but easy.

This kind of slow-and-steady growth reflects Imtiaz Ali’s signature storytelling style — dramas that build word-of-mouth over time rather than relying on a big opening weekend.
