Rick and Morty Season 9 Episode 3 Ending Explained — The Splatterbolt Kick Was Never Really About Kung Fu

After two emotionally heavy episodes diving deep into Rick’s psyche, Rick and Morty Season 9 throws on a gi and goes full kung fu parody — and the result is one of the funniest, most unexpectedly touching half-hours of the season so far.

Rick and Morty: Overview

What Happens in Episode 3?

Rick and Morty’s long-awaited trip to Boob World — a cosmic running joke that still hasn’t paid off — is derailed in a Trader Joe’s parking lot when martial arts master Lu Sin rear-ends Rick’s ship. What begins as a petty fender-bender quickly snowballs. Lu Sin hits Rick with the deadly Exploding Heart Technique: a five-step death punch that will make Rick’s heart detonate with each forward step he takes.

Morty, frustrated with Rick’s stubbornness, heads back to the store and runs into Lu Sin, who takes him on as a kung fu apprentice — until Morty witnesses Sin violently kill an electrician for charging extra, breaking the illusion of the master’s supposed code of nonviolence.

Meanwhile, Rick tracks down Gird Jurgens, the original pressure-point master, and reverse-engineers all of martial arts using nanobots, transforming himself and Morty into instant kung fu masters.

The Splatterbolt Kick & Ending Explained

Rick, Morty, and Lu Sin exchange increasingly ridiculous techniques until they summon Punchy — the ancient demon god of hitting things — who unleashes the massive Punchenheimer, a monster covered in one million pressure points.

The only move that can stop it is the Splatterbolt Kick, but Lu Sin had stopped taking lessons from Gird Jurgens before he could master it. That’s where the real emotional gut-punch lands: Lu Sin finally admits that he intentionally crashed into Rick because conflict is the only way he knows how to connect with other people — the entire adventure began because of loneliness, not road rage.

That confession reframes everything. Lu Sin’s violence is less about hatred and more about emotional isolation, making him an unexpected parallel to Rick himself, who frequently pushes people away. The three perform the Splatterbolt Kick together, defeat Punchenheimer, and Punchy — revealed to be none other than the Hawaiian Punch mascot — declares the lesson learned. PRIMETIMER

Jerry’s Subplot: Pool Bot Gone Wrong

Not to be overlooked: Jerry installs a large language model into his new pool cleaning robot without reading the safety warnings. The bot becomes dangerously obsessed, flooding the Smith house in a Fatal Attraction-style spiral. Jerry ultimately has to bait it into almost acting on its obsession just to yank its power source away. Classic Jerry. FandomWire

The episode ends with a pool party featuring the whole Smith family, Lu Sin, Gird Jurgens, and a supporting cast of seven. Season 9 streams on HBO Max and Hulu from June 15, 2026, if you’re catching up. For all the latest updates, stay tuned to TechnoSports.
