The Woman Behind the Watch: Meet Megha Mhatre — The Unsung Hero of Made in India: A Titan Story

If you’ve been glued to Made in India: A Titan Story on Amazon MX Player, you already know Megha Mhatre is not just a side character — she’s the heartbeat of Titan’s early days. But who is the real woman behind this compelling character? Let’s break it down.

Who Is Megha Mhatre in the Show?

Played by actress Kaveri Seth, Megha Mhatre is introduced as one of the very first executives recruited by Xerxes Desai (portrayed by Jim Sarbh) during the birth of the Tata Watch Project in the 1980s. She rises to become the Head of Marketing, playing a pivotal role in transforming a bold idea into what we now know as Titan — one of India’s most iconic watch brands.

The Real-Life Inspiration: Vibha Paul Rishi

Megha Mhatre is believed to be inspired by Vibha Paul Rishi, a real-world marketing powerhouse who was among Titan’s founding executives.

Rishi joined the Tata Group through the prestigious Tata Administrative Service and was one of the earliest members involved when the venture was still called the Tata Watch Project. She worked shoulder-to-shoulder with Desai’s core team, making her one of the true founding pillars of Titan Company Limited.

Where Is Vibha Paul Rishi Now?

Vibha Paul Rishi went on to build an illustrious career after her Titan years. She later served as Chief Marketing Officer at Apollo Tyres and has been widely recognised as one of India’s foremost marketing leaders. Her journey from a startup watch project to boardrooms across corporate India is nothing short of inspiring.

Why Megha Mhatre’s Character Matters

In a show dominated by male visionaries, Megha represents the women who quietly built India’s corporate legacy. Her presence in the narrative is a reminder that behind every iconic brand, there’s often a sharp, driven woman making it all tick — quite literally, in Titan’s case.
