What Is Daemons of the Shadow Realm About?
At the heart of this anime is a story of twins, secrets, and supernatural forces. Yuru and Asa are siblings from an isolated village — Yuru is an animal hunter, while Asa has been locked away and assigned a mysterious duty. When a violent attack on their village — targeting Yuru — leaves all the adults dead, the twins attempt to flee.
In the chaos, Yuru is confronted by a woman claiming to be his true twin sister. Rescued by village outsider Ryuu “Dera” Tadera, Yuru is pushed to offer a gift to the village deity — triggering the summoning of a pair of daemons whose existence is now bound to uncovering the truth behind the attack.
It’s exactly the kind of layered, mythology-driven storytelling that Arakawa built her legacy on.
Why This Anime Is Already a Big Deal
The pedigree here is genuinely extraordinary. Hiromu Arakawa needs no introduction — Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is consistently ranked among the greatest anime of all time. The fact that she’s written a new manga, and that it’s being adapted by Bones Film — the same studio behind FMA: Brotherhood, Soul Eater, and My Hero Academia — is the kind of creative alignment that makes anime fans set calendar reminders.
Director Masahiro Andō adds further craft to the project, and with Netflix distributing worldwide with multiple dubs from day one, this isn’t a series that will quietly arrive and disappear. The global anime audience is going to find it fast.
The series will roll out in two cours throughout 2026, meaning the story continues well beyond the July premiere — a good reason to get in early and stay along for the ride.
