When a drama is genuinely good, the lead-up to its finale feels bittersweet. Absolute Value of Romance on Coupang Play has been one of those quietly special shows — charming, funny, and emotionally layered in ways you don’t always expect from its premise. And now, with Episodes 15 and 16 airing on May 29, it’s going out with a bang.

What Is Absolute Value of Romance About?

Absolute Value of Romance tells the story of high school student Yeo Eui Ju (Kim Hyang Gi), who secretly writes a BL novel featuring her handsome teachers as the main characters. However, when she winds up running into these teachers in real life at unexpected moments, her once-peaceful school life takes a turbulent turn.

It’s a premise that sounds light on paper but carries surprising emotional depth — and the finale stills confirm the show is leaning hard into both the comedy and the heart.

Character	Actor	Finale Development
Yeo Eui Ju	Kim Hyang Gi	Faces disciplinary committee — possible expulsion
Ga Woo Soo	Cha Hak Yeon	Sudden hospital visit alarms classmates
Noh Da Ju	Kim Jae Hyun	Watches Woo Soo with visible concern
Jung Ki Jeon	Sohn Jeong Hyuck	Part of the worried group at school
Yoon Dong Joo	Kim Dong Gyu	Also watches the situation unfold

What’s Happening in the Finale — Broken Down

The fallout from Eui Ju’s identity as “Lee Mook,” the author of the web novel We Were Friends, has gone fully nuclear. Swept up in a controversy that shakes the entire school, Eui Ju is summoned before the disciplinary committee and even faces the possibility of expulsion — especially after her parents are called in as well.

But the emotional gut-punch of the finale comes from a different direction. Ga Woo Soo is seen leaving class to visit the hospital, while his friends watch him with concern, creating a much heavier atmosphere than usual. After hearing the news, Eui Ju rushes to the hospital, where the drama will finally unveil an unexpected connection and fateful bond that has tied the two characters together since 10 years ago.

A 10-year-old connection, only revealed in the finale — that’s the kind of storytelling payoff that rewards patient viewers. It recontextualizes everything that came before it.

One of the biggest questions heading into the finale is whether Eui Ju, now pushed to the brink, will be able to finish the final chapter of her halted web novel We Were Friends — whose serialization was paused following her public apology. soompi

The novel within the drama completing its arc alongside the characters’ real-world arcs is a beautifully meta touch — and exactly the kind of narrative layering that makes Absolute Value of Romance more than just a fun school comedy.
