Kattalan Releases Tomorrow — But Unni Mukundan Just Cleared the Air About the Marco Universe Rumours

Just one day before its theatrical release, Kattalan is already stirring up conversation — and not just for its high-octane action. Marco star Unni Mukundan has officially stepped forward to deny any involvement in the film’s much-talked-about cinematic universe, and his production house’s statement is about as clear as it gets.

Kattalan — Everything You Need to Know

What Is Kattalan About?

Kattalan revolves around a brutal ivory cartel war, following a man who finds himself caught between relentless greed and the untamed wilderness. The makers have confirmed the film is set in the same cinematic universe as Marco, and has three different post-credit scenes — hinting that the story will continue as a franchise.

Ivory smuggling, a connected universe, and multiple post-credit teasers? This is Malayalam cinema swinging for the franchise fences in the boldest way possible.

Unni Mukundan Draws a Clear Line

Unni Mukundan’s production house, Unni Mukundan Films, issued an official statement clarifying that the actor is not part of Kattalan or any universe associated with it, and requested fans and the public to refrain from questioning them further about any such association.

It’s a rare but firm public clarification — and it effectively puts the rumour to rest. The Marco–Kattalan universe will move forward without Unni Mukundan’s character, at least officially.

What’s Next for Both Stars?

Antony Varghese will next appear in I’m Game, starring Dulquer Salmaan and directed by Nahas Hidayath — a high-stakes action entertainer also featuring Kathir, Mysskin, and Kayadu Lohar, set to release on August 20, 2026, coinciding with Onam.

Unni Mukundan, meanwhile, has lent his voice to Nicholas Galitzine’s Prince Adam in the Malayalam dubbed version of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, releasing on June 5, 2026. He also has Thottam – The Demesne in the pipeline, co-starring Keerthy Suresh.
