What Was Bandi About?

After their mother’s sudden death, a group of eleven orphaned siblings in Martinique struggles to survive, driving some of them toward crime as a way to stay together. Netflix

At the centre of the story is 16-year-old Kylian, who secretly fashions himself as a drug kingpin under the alias Milord, while his brother Kingsley pursues get-rich-quick schemes — including raiding the stash of local dealer SherKhan. Bandi is the story of a family whose siblings are prepared to do whatever it takes to keep the Lafleur name alive, even as it threatens to tear their lives apart. What’s on Netflix

To tell this story authentically, creator Éric Rochant (The Bureau) worked with hundreds of local Martinican actors and a local shooting crew, and brought in West Indies-set writers Jimmy Laporal-Trésor and Khris Burton to write and produce the eight episodes. What’s on Netflix

Why Did Netflix Cancel It?

Nothing was confirmed until late Thursday, when Netflix issued a statement to local radio RCI — which spans both Guadeloupe and Martinique — confirming Bandi would not return for a second season. whats-on-netflix

The reasoning of viewership versus costs is not exclusive to Netflix, but Bandi had been constructed as a family saga spanning multiple seasons — making the cancellation a particularly bitter pill for the creators and fans alike. whats-on-netflix

The Lafleur clan’s fate — especially the shocking events of the season finale — will now remain unresolved. Viewers will no doubt be frustrated they will never know the thorny fate of Kylian Lafleur. whats-on-netflix

What’s Happening With Other French Netflix Shows?

Blood Coast (Pax Massilia) is currently in production on Season 3, and The Cage is set to return later this year with its second season — but several other French Netflix shows are still officially awaiting their fate, including Néro The Assassin, Represent (En Place), Cash Queens (Les Lionnes), and Flunked (Recalé). whats-on-netflix

FAQs

**Q: Why was Bandi cancelled on Netflix despite strong viewership numbers?**

A: Netflix weighs production costs alongside viewership data — the show’s ambitious scale, shot entirely on location in Martinique with a large local cast, likely made renewal economics difficult.
