Moonwalking Past Rs 50 Crore: Michael Biopic’s India Box Office Run Is Quietly Rewriting the Rules for Hollywood in 2026

Nobody saw this coming — and that’s exactly what makes it so remarkable. The Michael Jackson biopic Michael, starring Jaafar Jackson, has quietly crossed a milestone at the Indian box office that very few non-franchise Hollywood films manage to achieve. And with a third weekend still to come, the story isn’t over yet.

Michael : Day-Wise India Box Office Collections

The Jaafar Jackson starrer musical comedy added Rs 1.75 crore to the tally on its Day 13, bringing the total cume to slightly over the Rs 50 crore gross mark. The movie will close its second week, taking the running cume around Rs 51.50 crore gross. Deltia’s Gaming

The second weekend jump — from Rs 1.35 crore on Day 8 to Rs 5 crore on Day 10 — underlines how effectively word-of-mouth is working for this film in India. That’s not a film fading quietly; that’s a film finding its audience week by week.

What the Numbers Actually Mean?

Michael has emerged as a HIT film, marking the third HIT for Hollywood in India this year after Project Hail Mary and Lee Cronin’s The Mummy. All three have arrived within a short span of roughly a month. Deltia’s Gaming

Based on current trends, the movie is looking to wind up its entire theatrical run around Rs 75 crore gross, which is an amazing result for a music-based Hollywood film in India. Deltia’s Gaming

To put that in perspective, Rs 75 crore gross for a Hollywood biopic in India — a market that typically gravitates toward action spectaculars and franchise IP — is genuinely exceptional. A Broader Story: Hollywood’s Surprising 2026 Resurgence in India

This isn’t just a Michael story — it’s a Hollywood story. Even this week’s release, The Devil Wears Prada 2, is also performing well. While it may not emerge as a HIT, it is shaping up to be a success. What makes these results particularly impressive is that none of these films fits the conventional template of a Hollywood HIT in India, a market that is usually heavily IP-driven.

There are some big films from big IPs slated for release later this year. 2026 could turn out to be a very strong year for Hollywood in India, especially if there are more unexpected successes and HITs along the way. Deltia’s Gaming

Three HITs in a month, none of them sequels or superhero films. That’s not a trend — that’s a shift. The Indian audience in 2026 is clearly more open to quality storytelling from Hollywood than conventional wisdom suggested.
