Ayushmaan Sethi lost ₹87,000 in a “Free Trial” Scam: Archana Puran Singh‘s son clicked on a seven-day free trial. What came next was an ₹87,000 deduction, a panicking 20-something, and a father’s deadpan verdict: “You are always in a hurry.”

It began with a tempting “free trial” offer. It ended with a shocked young man, a cancelled transaction request, and a living room full of laughter mixed with very real concern — all caught on camera.

Ayushmaan Sethi, the younger son of veteran actors Archana Puran Singh and Parmeet Sethi, recently became the latest victim of an online credit card scam — losing a staggering ₹87,000 in a single click. The incident, which played out entirely in front of his family, was later shared by his elder brother, Aaryamann Sethi, in a vlog on his YouTube channel, Aary Vlogs.

What exactly happened?

Ayushmaan had opted for a seven-day free trial on a credit card-linked website. The site first charged a $0 verification transaction — which he accepted — and then, within an hour, deducted ₹87,000 for a full year’s subscription without any clear prior warning. His bank’s helpline responded with an automated message. The website said they’d reply within 48 hours.

“They took the money for the entire year under the pretext of a seven-day free trial.”— Ayushmaan Sethi, as seen in Aaryamann Sethi’s vlog

What happened next was quintessentially Sethi household: Archana immediately said, “Just cancel it — call the credit card company.” Parmeet, cooler-headed, corrected her: “Don’t cancel the card, cancel the payment.” A confused Ayushmaan then asked where to find that option — and the room burst out laughing.

This is more common than you think

The “free trial trap” is one of the most widespread digital scams in India today. A seemingly harmless ₹0 deduction grants a website permission to bill regularly. The real charge — sometimes thousands of rupees — lands hours or days later. Ayushmaan Sethi admitted he couldn’t even recall the website’s name during the vlog, highlighting just how quickly these traps can disorient even tech-savvy users.

Notably, this wasn’t the family’s first brush with online fraud. In an earlier incident, Archana Puran Singh herself fell victim to a ticketing scam during a Dubai vacation.

3 rules to never get trapped in a free trial

1. Screenshot before you click. Always document a site’s trial terms before entering card details — you’ll need proof later if things go wrong.

2. Use virtual cards. Set a spending limit so no surprise charges can exceed what you allow.

3. Set a calendar reminder. Mark the trial end date — cancel before it arrives, not after.

The silver lining? Ayushmaan Sethi’s very public mishap is now a cautionary tale reaching thousands of viewers who might avoid the same trap. As Parmeet Sethi put it with characteristic calm: “You are always in a hurry.” Slow down. Read the fine print. And maybe don’t accept $0 charges from websites you aren’t entirely sure about.

Share this story — because the next free-trial victim might be someone you know. Online scams are getting smarter every day; awareness is still the best defence.
