RCB vs GT: Kohli’s 81-Run Masterclass Decides IPL 2026 Thriller

The clash delivered a nail-biting finish at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on April 24, 2026, as Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) edged out Gujarat Titans (GT) by 5 wickets. Chasing a formidable 206, RCB reached the target in 18.5 overs, with Virat Kohli’s sensational 81 off 44 balls proving the cornerstone of their successful pursuit. This pivotal victory, achieved after being dropped on the very first ball of the innings, underscores how individual brilliance can fundamentally alter the course of a closely contested match. Weaving in an RCB Match IPL preview, this contest lived up to its billing as a battle between two of the IPL’s strongest sides.

Rcbvs: The Unlikely Hero: How Kohli Turned Dropped Chance into Match-Winner

The narrative of any high-stakes encounter often hinges on fine margins, and this fixture was no exception. Virat Kohli’s innings, a blistering 81 off 44 balls, was punctuated by a moment that could have drastically altered the game’s complexion. Dropped on 0 by Washington Sundar off the very first ball of RCB’s chase, Kohli seized the lifeline with both hands. His subsequent onslaught, featuring 5 boundaries and a strike rate of 165.00, not only stabilized RCB’s innings but propelled them towards a daunting target. This performance wasn’t just about runs; it was about absorbing pressure and converting a near-disaster into a match-defining moment. The sheer resilience shown by Kohli, especially after that early reprieve, highlighted his status as a player who thrives under immense scrutiny. Honestly, it’s moments like these that define legacies in the IPL.

Rcbvs: Sai Sudharsan’s Century: A Lone Battle Against Momentum

While Kohli’s heroics ultimately sealed the win for RCB, Gujarat Titans’ innings was anchored by a magnificent century from Sai Sudharsan. Facing a formidable RCB attack, Sudharsan displayed remarkable composure, scoring 100 runs off 58 balls. His innings was a testament to his growing maturity as a T20 batsman, providing the crucial stability needed for GT to post a commanding total. He single-handedly steered the innings, especially when wickets fell at the other end, ensuring GT reached a competitive 205/3. The partnership with Jos Buttler, who contributed a quickfire 25 off 16 balls, provided a solid foundation. However, it was Sudharsan’s ability to accelerate and convert his start into a three-figure score that truly set the stage for GT’s imposing total, a feat that bettered their previous highest against RCB of 200/3 at Ahmedabad in 2024.

Tactical Battles: Holder’s Six and Siraj’s Discipline

The contest wasn’t solely about individual brilliance; tactical nuances played a significant role. Gujarat Titans’ final surge, particularly in the death overs, was encapsulated by Jason Holder’s explosive hitting. His towering six over cow corner off Krunal Pandya in the 19th over was a sight to behold, igniting a late charge that saw GT amass 18 runs in the final over, pushing their score to a formidable 205/3. This aggressive finish underscored GT’s intent to set a challenging target. On the other side, RCB’s bowling attack, while conceding a high score, showed moments of discipline. Mohammed Siraj, in particular, bowled a tight spell, picking up 1 wicket for 25 runs off 3 overs, including the crucial catch of Jacob Bethell by Mohammed Khan. His ability to contain the flow of runs, even under pressure, was vital in preventing GT from reaching an even more insurmountable total.
