The plans to hold the Tokyo Olympic should be reconsidered as Japan is unable to contain the COVID-19 pandemic.
Tokyo Olympic was postponed for almost one year due to the outbreak of COVID-19 worldwide. As per the schedule, it is due to begin in fewer than 100 days. But, the fourth wave of infections may become the reason for some further delay.
Japan fails to contain the virus transmission. With limited testing capacity and a slow vaccination rollout, it becomes a matter of concern. According to a report published in the British Medical Journal on Wednesday suggest that it can become worse in the next few weeks.
The lead author Kazuki Shimizu of the London School of Economics wrote, “Plans to hold the Olympic and Paralympic games this summer must be reconsidered as a matter of urgency.”
“Holding Tokyo 2020 for domestic political and economic purposes–ignoring scientific and moral imperatives–is contradictory to Japan’s commitment to global health and human security.”-he added.
The Japanese doctor also suggested the same. 75% of doctors suggested postponing the Olympics in a survey conducted last month.
However, Japan has started the vaccination of COVID-19 last February. But only  0.9% of the Japanese public have received their first shot so far.
