What Happened in For All Mankind Episodes 1 & 2? (Quick Catch-Up)

Season 5 picks up in the years since the Goldilocks asteroid heist. Happy Valley has grown into a thriving colony with thousands of residents, serving as a base for new missions deeper into the solar system — but with the nations of Earth now demanding law and order on the Red Planet, friction is building between Martian residents and their former home.

Episode 2 opened with Yoon Tae-Min’s murder spiralling into a legal and political nightmare. Lee Jung-Gil became the main suspect, but his arrest never fully added up. Ed trusted him anyway and chose to stand by that call. At the same time, Officer Celia Boyd went looking for answers because her instincts told her something didn’t add up at all.

Season 5 Setting: Why It Matters

For All Mankind Season 5 is set in an alternate 2012, where Mars’ Happy Valley has grown into a bustling colony. But stability is fragile — Earth’s governments are tightening their grip and demanding oversight over Martian operations, fuelling a growing resistance among Mars inhabitants and setting the stage for a possible interplanetary conflict. As Wikipedia explains, the show is built on a compelling alternate history where the Soviet Union landed on the Moon first in 1969, igniting a space race that never ended — and Season 5 is the most politically explosive chapter yet.
