We’ve seen Mark Grayson bleed before. But Episode 5 of Invincible Season 4 took things to a place that made even the most seasoned superhero fans look away — and it was absolutely magnificent television.

What Happened in Invincible S4 Episode 5 — “Give Us a Moment”

The episode, which aired on April 1, 2026 on Amazon Prime Video, balances raw family tension on Earth with the launch of the Coalition mission and the first major clash of the Viltrumite War.

Mark, Oliver, Nolan, Allen, and Tech Jacket board the Venture spacecraft for a two-week journey to Talescria to link up with the Coalition of Planets. The peaceful travel ends abruptly when a Viltrumite gunship attacks. Conquest spots Oliver on a nearby planet and pursues him, viewing the boy as a weakness — and Mark races in just in time.

The Ending Explained: Did Mark Truly Defeat Conquest?

Yes — but at an almost unthinkable cost.

Mark strangles Conquest — refusing to release his grip even as Conquest punches through Mark’s chest and rips out his intestines in one of the series’ most graphic and disturbing fight sequences. This marks the confirmed, permanent death of Conquest. Mark collapses beside the corpse, severely wounded and near death, but he survives.

Mark even bit off Conquest’s fingers when the villain tried to break free from the chokehold. Eventually, Conquest suffocated from lack of oxygen, ending their rivalry permanently. Art Threat

The episode concludes with Nolan and Oliver finding a debilitated Mark lying next to Conquest’s corpse while Allen and Tech Jacket hide as stowaways on the Viltrumite vessel outside the planet’s orbit. The Ringer

Why This Moment Matters

This wasn’t just a fight — it was a defining character moment for Mark Grayson. As a superhero bound by moral conflict, Mark’s refusal to let go even while being disembowelled showed the series at its thematic best: the cost of protecting the people you love is sometimes everything you have.

Mark was significantly stronger than when he first fought Conquest because Viltrumites grow exponentially stronger the more they work, and every time they heal, they heal with a little more durability — making this rematch a very different encounter.
