More than a decade after becoming the highest-grossing R-rated film in Korean cinema history, Inside Men is officially returning — not as a drama, not as a standalone sequel, but as a three-part film series. Production company Hive Media Corp announced on March 16, 2026 that the project has been completely reimagined as a full movie trilogy, bringing back one of South Korean cinema’s most celebrated crime stories in an ambitious new form.

What Is Inside Men and Why Does It Matter?
The original Inside Men (2015) is a landmark of South Korean crime cinema — a sharp, unflinching examination of the corruption and collusion between media, capital, and political power in a cartel of influential “insiders” operating in late 1980s Korea. Directed by Woo Min Ho and starring Lee Byung Hun and Baek Yoon Shik, the film became a cultural phenomenon and holds the record as the highest-grossing R-rated film in Korean box office history.

The story is based on the acclaimed webtoon by Yoon Tae Ho — the same creator behind Misaeng — lending it both narrative depth and a pre-built fanbase.
What Happened to the Drama Adaptation?
The road to this trilogy has been a long one. The project was first announced as a drama adaptation featuring Song Kang Ho and Koo Kyo Hwan — but those plans unravelled over time. Koo Kyo Hwan eventually stepped back from the project, and Song Kang Ho’s involvement was also ultimately not confirmed. The format was then reconceived entirely as a film trilogy, with new directors Kim Min Beom (assistant director on 12.12: The Day) and Kim Jin Seok (who worked on Harbin and Veteran) now at the helm.
Lee Sung Min is currently in talks to take the pivotal role of Lee Kang Hee, previously played by Baek Yoon Shik. Ju Ji Hoon was offered the role of Ahn Sang Goo (originally Lee Byung Hun’s iconic turn) but has declined, choosing instead to star in the upcoming drama Buy King. Casting for that role continues.
