Muthu Engira Kaattaan OTT Release Date Confirmed: Vijay Sethupathi’s Mystery Thriller Is One of the Most Intriguing Tamil Web Series of 2026

Who is Muthu alias Kaattaan? That one question is doing enough heavy lifting to pull every Tamil OTT fan toward JioHotstar on March 27, 2026. Vijay Sethupathi — one of Tamil cinema’s most fearless performers — is back on the streaming world with Muthu Engira Kaattaan, a mystery web series that promises to be unlike anything he has done before.

Muthu Engira Kaattaan — All You Need to Know

What’s the Story?

The premise alone is irresistible. Muthu Engira Kaattaan follows a deeply mysterious man named Muthu, whose identity is pieced together through wildly conflicting accounts — some call him a legend, some a monster, and others a miracle. The series peels back these layers one by one to uncover his true story and why no two people see him the same way.

It’s the kind of character-driven mystery that Tamil audiences have quietly been waiting for — and putting Vijay Sethupathi at the centre of an unreliable narrative is a casting choice that practically guarantees intrigue.

A Director Worth Getting Excited About

What makes this more than just another OTT release is the pedigree behind the camera. M. Manikandan — the visionary director of Kadaisi Vivasayi — both created and co-directed the series. His reputation for deeply humane, layered storytelling gives Muthu Engira Kaattaan a credibility that goes well beyond typical streaming fare.

Adding to that, the music is in the hands of Rajesh Murugesan, whose work on Premam remains one of the most beloved Tamil soundtracks of the decade. If the series matches even a fraction of that emotional depth, it’s going to be a memorable watch.

What’s Next for Vijay Sethupathi?

Beyond Kaattaan, Sethupathi has a stacked 2026 lineup — Slum Dog: 33 Temple Road (with Puri Jagannadh), Pocket Novel (reunion with Super Deluxe director Thiagarajan Kumararaja alongside Malavika Mohanan), a cameo in Jailer 2, and a confirmed project under Mani Ratnam with Sai Pallavi.
