Xiaomi 17 Series With Leica LOFIC Sensor Launches in India

Xiaomi India has officially launched the Xiaomi 17 Series — comprising the Xiaomi 17 and Xiaomi 17 Ultra — and if you’re into smartphone photography, this one genuinely deserves your attention. The headline feature is a first-of-its-kind LOFIC sensor technology, co-engineered with Leica, that promises to change how your phone handles light.

Xiaomi 17 Series: Key Specs at a Glance

What Is LOFIC Technology and Why Does It Matter?

LOFIC stands for Lateral Overflow Integration Capacitor — and in plain English, it means the sensor can hold far more light data before it overflows. Traditional smartphone cameras struggle when a scene mixes very bright and very dark areas, like a sunset or a dimly lit room with a bright window. They usually sacrifice one for the other.

Xiaomi 17 Ultra’s 1-inch LOFIC main sensor, built in partnership with Leica, captures both ends of the spectrum simultaneously — delivering what Xiaomi claims is one of the widest dynamic ranges ever achieved on a smartphone. Think of it as your camera finally seeing light the way your eyes do.

Paired with a 200MP Leica telephoto system featuring 75–100mm continuous optical zoom — not the usual fixed zoom jumps — it’s the kind of flexibility that portrait and travel photographers dream about. The system is built to Leica APO optical standards, minimizing chromatic aberration across the zoom range. For video, it supports Dolby Vision and ACES Log at 4K 120fps.

Xiaomi 17: The Compact Flagship Done Right

Not everyone wants a camera-first behemoth. The Xiaomi 17 is built for people who want a full flagship experience in a comfortable, everyday form factor. At just 191g and 8.06mm, it’s remarkably light for what’s packed inside.

The 6330mAh battery — powered by Xiaomi’s Surge Battery tech with 16% silicon content — is unusually large for a compact device, and with 100W HyperCharge, you’re not waiting around long. The triple 50MP Leica camera system handles everyday photography beautifully, while the IP68+69 rating means it can take real-world knocks without drama.

It’s the phone for someone who wants less compromise, not more specs. Read our full breakdown of the best flagship phones under ₹1 lakh on Technosports to see how it stacks up.
