Tamil cinema rarely has a dull moment — and the latest storm involves actor-director R. Parthiban, actress Trisha Krishnan, and a comment that set social media on fire.

This controversy sits against the backdrop of Thalapathy Vijay‘s highly publicised personal life — specifically his ongoing divorce proceedings from wife Sangeetha Sornalingam. The appearance of Vijay and Trisha together in coordinated outfits at a public event was always going to invite scrutiny. What made it messy was when public figures started weighing in uninvited.

What Happened? A Quick Timeline

Event	Details
Trigger	Vijay & Trisha spotted together at a wedding reception
Outfit	Both wore coordinated attire, fuelling rumours
Parthiban’s Comment	Remarked that Trisha (calling her “Kundavai”) should “sit at home for a while”
Trisha’s Response	Fired back sharply on social media
Parthiban’s Clarification	Posted a video calling it a “mistake,” not intentional wrongdoing
Background	Vijay’s ongoing divorce from wife Sangeetha adds context

Parthiban’s Clarification — What Did He Actually Say?

In a video posted on social media, Parthiban stated that a “mistake is something done unknowingly,” while “wrongdoing is doing something willingly.” He admitted a mistake happened at the event when Trisha’s photo appeared while he was speaking about Vijay and Ajith Kumar, saying he was genuinely shocked and didn’t know how to react. He also clarified that he is not a political mouthpiece and has never been paid to attend events — and stressed that the only relevant parties in the Vijay situation are the actor himself and his legal wife Sangeetha. Free Press Journal

Essentially, Parthiban is walking back on the optics of his statement — not necessarily the sentiment behind it.

Trisha Wasn’t Having It

The actress delivered arguably the most quotable clap-back of 2026 Tamil cinema drama season. Trisha responded by saying that a microphone doesn’t make a comment intelligent or humorous — it just makes stupidity louder. Free Press Journal

Cold. Precise. Iconic.

Q: Why did R. Parthiban make a comment about Trisha Krishnan?

Parthiban’s remark at a public event — suggesting Trisha should “stay home” — came after she appeared alongside Thalapathy Vijay amid his divorce controversy. He later clarified it was a slip, not a deliberate attack.
