Netflix’s ‘The Silence’ (De Stilte): The Dutch Psychological Thriller That Could Be Your Next Obsession

If Undercover had you glued to your screen, brace yourself — its creator is back, and this time the stakes feel even more personal and unsettling.

Netflix has officially announced The Silence (De Stilte in Dutch), a brand-new psychological thriller series from Nico Moolenaar, the mastermind behind Undercover and the spin-off film Ferry. And from everything we know so far, this one promises to hit differently.

The Silence Netflix Series — Everything At a Glance

What’s The Silence Story?

The plot centers on Sara Post, a successful writer who suddenly vanishes without a trace. Her husband Tarik is then thrown into a harrowing search — one that forces him to dig deep into Sara’s concealed past. His journey leads him to a closed-off community where silence is treated as a virtue and truth is buried beneath layers of carefully guarded secrets.

It’s the kind of premise where every conversation feels like a chess match, and nobody is quite who they appear to be. Moolenaar himself described it as the purest thriller of his career — which, given what he achieved with Undercover, is a significant statement.

A Cast That Means Business

Leading the series is Marwan Kenzari — internationally recognized for his villainous turn as Jafar in Disney’s Aladdin and his starring role in Netflix’s The Old Guard. Opposite him is Rianne van Rompaey, one of the world’s top models making her Dutch-language acting debut. The combination of a seasoned screen presence alongside a raw, first-time performer in a role demanding enormous emotional complexity is a genuinely interesting gamble — and it could pay off beautifully.

The supporting cast is stacked with respected Dutch talent including Rifka Lodeizen, Anniek Pheifer, Renée Soutendijk, and Hans Kesting, giving the series a real sense of ensemble depth.

Filming is set to begin shortly, with a 2027 Netflix release being the most realistic projection at this stage.

For fans of European crime thrillers and psychological drama on streaming platforms, this is exactly the kind of show worth putting on your watchlist early. For more upcoming Netflix originals and streaming news, keep an eye on TechnoSports for the latest updates.
