Aamir Khan Productions witnessed one of 2026’s biggest box office disasters. Happy Patel: Khatarnaak Jasoos, starring Vir Das in his directorial debut, collapsed with Rs 5.25 crore lifetime—barely recovering costs.

The Border 2 Knockout

Happy Patel opened with Rs 1.10 crore on January 16. Weekend showed minimal growth—Saturday peaked at Rs 1.60 crore before Sunday dropped to Rs 1.50 crore. Then Border 2’s patriotic wave crushed competition.

Monday crashed 70% from Sunday. By Thursday, the spy comedy earned Rs 15 lakh daily. Sunny Deol’s war epic dominated screens, leaving no room for smaller films.

Star Cast Couldn’t Save It

Despite Vir Das, Mithila Palkar, Mona Singh, Sharib Hashmi, plus Imran-Aamir Khan cameos, audiences rejected the comedy. The Vir-Aamir reunion that delivered Delhi Belly’s 2011 hit couldn’t replicate magic.

What Went Wrong

Marketing couldn’t fix fundamental issues. The clumsy detective comedy never connected. Opening day Rs 1.10 crore signaled catastrophic word-of-mouth from start.

Flat weekend trends plus Border 2’s dominance sealed fate within days. The film barely lasted two weeks theatrically.

Digital Hope Remains

All eyes turn to Happy Patel’s OTT debut. Vir Das’ global standup fame might translate better digitally, potentially giving this theatrical disaster second life—like Delhi Belly eventually achieved on home video.
