Xbox Leaving Hardware? Microsoft Denies Exit Rumors

Rumors suggesting Xbox might abandon console hardware and go full third-party have sent shockwaves through the gaming community. While Microsoft has officially denied these claims, stating they’re “actively investing in future first-party consoles”, the speculation highlights growing concerns about Xbox’s direction.

Xbox Hardware Rumors: What We Know

Why the Xbox Third-Party Rumors Spread

The speculation originated from gaming forums suggesting Xbox would focus solely on franchises like Call of Duty, World of Warcraft, and Forza while abandoning console production. These claims quickly morphed into “Xbox hardware is cancelled” across social media, gaining traction due to Microsoft’s recent controversial decisions.

The 50% Game Pass price hike, aggressive multiplatform strategy, and retail struggles made these rumors feel plausible. Industry insiders note this situation echoes 2013’s disastrous Xbox One reveal, when fan backlash nearly destroyed the brand.

Microsoft’s Official Stance

Microsoft confirmed their multi-year partnership with AMD for next-generation Xbox hardware remains active, pointing to previous announcements as proof of commitment. The company emphasized that hardware development continues as planned.

However, the “at least for now” qualifier raises concerns about Xbox’s long-term hardware commitment. For context on gaming industry shifts, explore console market trends. Microsoft’s official Xbox news page provides updates on hardware developments.

What This Means for Xbox Fans

The fact these exit rumors seem plausible showcases a deep disconnect between Microsoft and its gaming audience. While current hardware plans remain intact, the company’s inconsistent messaging has eroded fan trust—a critical issue in sentiment-driven gaming markets.

Whether Xbox continues making consoles or transitions to full third-party remains uncertain, but for now, your Xbox Series X|S isn’t obsolete yet.
