KBS 2TV’s upcoming romance drama “Last Summer” has unveiled heart-fluttering new stills that showcase the undeniable chemistry between Lee Jae Wook and Choi Sung Eun. The newly released photos capture everything from awkward tension to blushing moments, promising viewers an emotional journey through complicated friendship and hidden love.

Last Summer Story Behind the Awkwardness

“Last Summer” follows the story of childhood friends Baek Do Ha (Lee Jae Wook) and Song Ha Kyung (Choi Sung Eun) as they uncover the long-buried truth about their first love, hidden away like Pandora’s box. After sharing a 17-year friendship, a fateful incident two years ago drove them apart, creating the palpable tension viewers see in these latest stills.

The drama is described as a “remodeling romance,” focusing on how the pair navigates their complicated history when Do Ha unexpectedly returns to their hometown of Patan, where their paths cross once more.

Character Dynamics & Cast Details

Actor	Character	Role	Background
Lee Jae Wook	Baek Do Ha	Gifted architect	Head of Pluto Atelier, returns to hometown
Choi Sung Eun	Song Ha Kyung	Government official	Architecture division, dreams of leaving Patan

The Chemistry That Has Fans Talking

The newly released stills capture a wide spectrum of their relationship dynamics. From their awkward reunion—sitting stiffly on opposite ends of a sofa as if measuring the distance between them—to tense moments where they lock eyes in charged silence, every frame hints at unresolved feelings.

Most intriguingly, the photos reveal softer moments: Do Ha watching Ha Kyung with quiet longing, and flashback scenes showing them standing close, blushing as they face one another. These contrasting emotions promise viewers everything from bickering love-hate chemistry to heart-fluttering romance.

Why “Last Summer” Stands Out in 2024’s Romance Lineup

What makes “Last Summer” particularly compelling is its exploration of how childhood friendship evolves into something deeper. Unlike typical K-drama meet-cutes, this series delves into the complexity of relationships that span decades, examining how misunderstandings can create barriers even between the closest friends.

For fans of Korean romance dramas, this childhood-friends-to-lovers trope offers a refreshing take on familiar themes, enhanced by the leads’ proven acting abilities.

Lee Jae Wook’s Dual Role Challenge

Adding another layer of intrigue, Lee Jae Wook reportedly takes on a dual role in the series, potentially playing twin brothers. This casting choice demonstrates the actor’s range and adds complexity to the already layered narrative structure.

Following his successful performances in dramas like “Alchemy of Souls” and “Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol,” Lee Jae Wook continues establishing himself as a versatile leading man capable of handling both romantic and dramatic elements.

Choi Sung Eun’s Rising Star Power

Choi Sung Eun, known for her compelling performances in “Beyond Evil” and “Hospital Playlist,” brings depth to her role as Ha Kyung. Her ability to convey subtle emotions makes her perfect for a character caught between loyalty to friendship and unexpressed romantic feelings.

The actress’s previous work demonstrates her skill in portraying complex female characters, making her an ideal match for this emotionally nuanced role.

Production Team’s Vision

The production team commented: “We wanted to capture the complex emotions of Do Ha, the summer guest, and Ha Gyeong, who could only see him for 21 days. The flawless chemistry between Lee Jae Wook and Choi Sung Eun will delicately unravel the characters’ stories.”

This attention to emotional detail suggests viewers can expect a thoughtfully crafted romance that prioritizes character development over superficial romantic gestures.

What to Expect from the Romance Elements

The drama promises to deliver multiple relationship dynamics:

Awkward reunion tension as former best friends navigate changed circumstances
Unresolved romantic feelings that have simmered beneath friendship for years
Emotional vulnerability as characters confront their past mistakes
Heart-fluttering moments balanced with realistic relationship challenges

For viewers interested in K-drama romance trends, “Last Summer” represents the mature storytelling that modern audiences crave.

The November 2024 Premiere

“Last Summer” will premiere on November 1 at 9:20 p.m. KST on KBS 2TV, taking over the Saturday & Sunday time slot. The timing positions it perfectly as a cozy autumn romance that viewers can enjoy during the chilly November months.

The production team specifically noted that it will be “a warm drama to enjoy in the chilly month of November,” suggesting the series will provide emotional comfort alongside its romantic storyline.

International Accessibility

While global OTT platform details haven’t been confirmed yet, fans can expect announcements about international streaming availability closer to the premiere date. Given the popularity of both lead actors, international distribution is likely.

You can catch up with Lee Jae Wook’s previous work in “Extraordinary You” and Choi Sung Eun in “Beyond Evil” while waiting for the November premiere.
