Samsung Exynos 2100 announced today with a built-in advanced 5G modem

Exynos 2100, which Samsung recently launched, can be the turning point for its mobile chipset division. It is Samsung’s latest flagship processor and a huge upgrade to its previous chipset. Qualcomm announced the arrival of Snapdragon 888 last month. These are two powerful chips in the market currently.

CPU: Exynos 2100 and Snapdragon 888 have same CPU cores. They have one ARM Cortex-X1, three ARM Cortex-A78 and four RM Cortex-A55. But the main difference comes in the speed they clock. Exynos 2100 clocks the higher speed of 2.9GHz, 2.8GHz and 2.7GHz respectively compared to Snapdragon 888’s 2.84GHz, 2.4GHz and 1.8GHz.

GPU: Exynos 2100 comes with Mali-G78 MP14 with 14 cores whereas Snapdragon 888 consist of Adreno 660. Exynos 1080 (239,408 points) had a better AnTuTu benchmark than Snapdragon 865 (236,287 points) but way less than Snapdragon 888. We can assume that Exynos 2100 will decrease that difference. Still, this bout goes to Snapdragon 888.

Connectivity: There is not much to separate the two chipsets on this basis. Both of the companies have their flagships integrated with 5G modem. Both of them can support mmWave and sub-6GHz spectrums.

AI Engine: Samsung’s Exynos 2100 offers Triple-core NPU up to 26 TOPS, similar to Snapdragon 888’s Hexagon 780, which again has 26 TOPS.

ISP: This can be another area which gives a slight edge to Exynos 2100. It became the first chipset to support AV1 Decoder for 8K. Also, it supports 200MP cameras and captures 8K videos at 60FPS. Snapdragon 888 also support 200MP cameras, but it captures 8K videos at 30FPS.

Conclusion: Exynos 2100 edges out Snapdragon 888 SoC in ISP and CPU aspect, but Snapdragon 888 has better GPU specs. There is not much to separate between the two chipsets in our opinion. Based on several aspects being won by SoC, we can claim Exynos 2100 to be a winner, but in reality, both are at equal spots.
