5 Supernatural BL Dramas That Redefine Love Beyond the Human Realm

When love transcends mortality, species, and time itself, you get the magical world of supernatural BL dramas. These otherworldly romances prove that true love isn’t bound by conventional rules—whether your soulmate is a vampire, merman, angel, or time-traveler. Here are five supernatural BL series that blend fantasy with heart-fluttering romance in the most captivating ways.

Supernatural BL Dramas Comparison Guide

1. Lover Merman: Island Paradise Meets Aquatic Romance

Businessman Phu relocates to a tropical island to partner at the beachside bar Full & A Half, where he instantly falls for charismatic bartender Nava. The catch? Nava is a merman hiding his identity from newcomers to protect his community.

As Phu pursues Nava relentlessly, complications arise from Nava’s childhood friend Prapai, also a merman, and ominous rumors about merfolk hunters threatening their peaceful existence. The island’s secret society of humans who protect the merfolk adds layers of intrigue to this star-crossed romance.

Why watch: This might be BL’s first human-merman love story, offering a refreshing vacation-like atmosphere with genuine stakes. The beach bar setting provides visual escapism while exploring themes of identity and acceptance.

2. One Room Angel: Heavenly Healing in Cramped Quarters

Unlucky Tomoda Kouki barely survives a violent encounter at his convenience store job, waking up to find an angel in his tiny apartment. The celestial being can’t remember his mission or return to heaven because his powers are linked to Kouki’s depression.

This Japanese BL transforms the “forced proximity, one bed” trope by pairing a dejected human with an amnesiac angel. Their mission becomes clear: the angel must somehow make the chronically unhappy Kouki find joy in life again—an impossible task that slowly blossoms into unexpected connection.

Why watch: Beneath its quirky premise lies a surprisingly poignant exploration of loneliness, mental health, and finding reasons to live. The chemistry between despair and divine intervention creates both comedic and touching moments.

3. My Secret Vampire: Bloodsuckers With a Feeding Dilemma

Country boy Han Dong Ha moves into a city guesthouse, unaware his four housemates are modern vampires scheming to fatten him up—literally. The vampires can only drink human blood if they follow strict rules: don’t reveal their identity, don’t harm the human, and wait until the human reaches a specific weight threshold.

Unfortunately for these bloodsuckers, Dong Ha is underweight. What starts as a Hansel-and-Gretel-style fattening plan evolves into accidental domestic family life, with grumpy half-breed Ju Won reluctantly warming to their human housemate.

Why watch: This lighthearted vampire comedy balances absurdity with genuine warmth. The shorter episode format makes it perfect for binge-watching while the cohabitation dynamics provide consistent humor.

4. HIStory 5: Love in the Future – Time-Crossed Hearts

Hardworking Tai Che Ni accidentally time-travels from New Year’s Day 2000 to 2022, landing in a pandemic-stricken world he can’t comprehend. He encounters wealthy Hai Yi during a messy breakup, becoming his live-in helper in exchange for accommodation.

As Che Ni navigates smartphones, social distancing, and modern life while searching for a way home, he discovers compelling reasons to stay in the future—especially his growing feelings for Hai Yi. Their relationship begins entirely via phone calls, building emotional intimacy before meeting face-to-face.

Why watch: The series handles time travel believably while exploring pandemic-era relationships with sensitivity. The fish-out-of-water comedy complements genuine romance, plus there’s a compelling second couple storyline.

5. Century of Love: A Hundred-Year Quest for Reincarnated Love

San’s life was saved by magical stone fragments, allowing him to fall deeply in love with Wat before tragedy steals her away. Using the same mystical stone, San binds his life to Wat’s for 100 years, enduring nightly agony while searching for her reincarnation.

Nearing his deadline, San finally discovers Wat’s reincarnation—but as a man named Vee. Initially resistant, San can’t deny his connection to this unexpected version of his lost love, leading to questions about destiny, gender, and the true nature of soulmates.

Why watch: With production values rivaling series like “I Feel You Linger in the Air,” this epic romance delivers stunning cinematography and complex storytelling that respects both the supernatural premise and emotional authenticity.
