Manchester United 2-1 Manchester City: Second half drama at Old Trafford gives Ten Hag’s men the win

Manchester United completed a second half comeback to take all three points in the derby against their rivals, Manchester City.

The first half saw the hosts put up a solid display, and did not allow Manchester City to have a single shot on target. Instead, they were able to register two out of four shots on target themselves. The defensive performance from Erik Ten Hag’s side was simply incredible, neutralising Kevin De Bruyne, Riyad Mahrez, Phil Foden and Erling Haaland in the big game.

Manchester United stun City with a comeback win

Jack Grealish opened the scoring for the defending champions of England, with one of his first touches coming off the bench. Kevin De Bruyne found his teammate with a remarkable cross to draw first blood, having failed to produce much during the game.

But their lead didn’t last long, with Bruno Fernandes equalising for the Red Devils shortly after. The Portugal international turned in a ball from Casemiro, which could have found Marcus Rashford instead. The Englishman was flagged for offside, but since he wasn’t involved in the play, it was allowed to stand despite protests from their opponents.

Marcus Rashford was able to score the match-winning goal off of the counter, from close range. The forward was there at the right place to score after some brilliant work from Alejandro Garnacho, who found his teammate with a second attempted cross.

Rashford has provided five goal contributions in Manchester United’s last four games. And his form has been simply brilliant under Erik Ten Hag, which has led to United’s revival. They are now in third place, ahead of Newcastle United. City, on the other hand, have suffered another blow in their ambitions to defend their title – potentially going eight points behind Arsenal if they win their game against Spurs.
