Premier League reveals 6 wrong decisions made by VAR this season

VAR in the Premier League has been the subject of controversy, based on the decisions that it has made. While wrong offsides may have been reduced to a bare minimum, the handball and penalty decisions have been very debatable to say the least.

And now, the refereeing panel has revealed at least six wrong decisions made this season.

The six wrong refereeing decisions that have been made in the Premier League this season

1. Chelsea 2-1 West Ham

Jarrod Bowen was deemed to have fouled Edouard Mendy in the build-up to Max Cornet’s goal. But, the board have said that the decision was simply wrong.

2. Newcastle United 0-0 Crystal Palace

Palace were awarded a penalty after a Lucas Digne handball early in the season. But, the panel states that the penalty should not have been awarded.

3. Crystal Palace 3-1 Aston Villa

An own goal from Crystal Palace’s Tyrick Mitchell was ruled out on the same day as Cornet’s goal was ruled out at Chelsea. A foul by Newcastle’s Joel Willock on goalkeeper Vicente Guaita caused the goal to be ruled out. However, that own goal should’ve stood.

4. Manchester United 3-1 Arsenal

A foul by Martin Odegaard on Christian Eriksen in the build-up caused Gabriel Martinelli’s opening goal to be ruled out. The board decided that this was the wrong call to have been made.

5. Fulham 3-0 Aston Villa

Headbutts in the Premier League have become a little more common nowadays. And in Steven Gerrard’s final match in charge of Aston Villa, Douglas Luiz was sent off for a headbutt on Aleksandar Mitrovic. And now, the decision has been reviewed to have been wrong.

6. Nottingham Forest 2-2 Brentford

Dean Henderson’s challenge on Yoane Wissa was not a foul, but a penalty was awarded to Brentford and was converted by Bryan Mbuemo. The Premier League review board have decided that this wasn’t a penalty either.
