NVIDIA: GeForce RTX 4090 doing great in Sales and claims its inventory to stabilize by First-Half of 2023

Colette Kress, NVIDIA’s CFO, addressed some key parts of their gaming business, including existing channel inventory and the recent GeForce RTX 4090 / 4080 launch. NVIDIA’s Chief Financial Officer, Colette Kress, revealed that the company has been under-shipping GPUs in the gaming industry for some time. This was revealed at Credit Suisse’s 26th Annual Technology Conference.

We know that the market was recently saturated with an overabundance of used GPUs as the crypto frenzy faded, and with prices for last-gen GPUs plummeting in both retail and used markets, there was little to no demand for any additional GPUs. Having said that, NVIDIA is currently beginning shipments and refreshing its older RTX 30 GPUs with new products in order to stabilise its channel inventories and backlog.

The firm anticipates that its channel inventories will be back to normal by the end of Q4, and that shipments will resume in the first half of 2023. The company also plans to expand its channel for the Ada launch and all subsequent Ada-based GPUs (Desktops/Workstations/Laptops) that will hit the market.

Kress also claims that NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 4090 and RTX 4080 are still under development.

According to prior sources, NVIDIA has supplied approximately 160,000 RTX 40 series graphics cards since the middle of November. This figure may be greater now, but we also know that the majority of sales feature the GeForce RTX 4090 graphics card, which has been the Ada family’s standout introduction thus far.

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080, on the other hand, has received less attention than the RTX 4090 due to its poor performance to dollar value ratio. Even scalpers who obtained the cards and attempted to sell them at exorbitant prices are now selling them at the MSRP because no one wants them.

It is also mentioned that despite being the flagship with a starting price of $1599 US, NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 4090 sold out in less than two weeks. We know that NVIDIA first shipped 100,000 cards (GeForce RTX 4090), so it’s very astounding if the chipmaker manages to sell out its whole stock in less than two weeks.

NVIDIA has also highlighted their popularity by including statistics from Steam’s hardware poll. According to the business, NVIDIA has the top 15 cards on the SHS. The GTX 1650 just gained the top spot with a 6.27% market share, followed by the GTX 1060 with a 5.77% market share and the RTX 2060 with a 4.64% market share as the only ‘RTX’ graphics card. The RTX 4090 and RTX 4080 have yet to appear in the Steam Hardware Survey, although they should begin to gain traction by Q1 2023.

In the first half of 2023, NVIDIA is scheduled to release more consumer GeForce RTX 40 series graphics cards. According to the JPR research, the company just won big in the current discrete GPU market share report, claiming up to 88% market share.
