Finally, there is Netflix with advertising since the firm launched its Netflix Basic with Ads in Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, the UK, the US, and on November 10th, in Spain. After initially refusing to include advertisements in its streaming service, In the US, it costs $6.99 per month.

According to COO Greg Peters’ blog post announcing the tier from October, you’ll see four to five advertisements on Basic with Ads “on average” every hour. You will see advertisements that are 15 or 30 seconds long before and during the content you watch, but you cannot skip or fast-forward through them.

As a “global advertising technology and sales partner” for the new tier, Netflix has a partnership with Microsoft.

TV series and movies will stream at 720p video quality, just like with the ad-free Basic tier, but only a “limited” selection will be available “due to licensing restrictions, which we’re working on,” added Peters. According to a Netflix help page, you will notice a lock icon on shows you are unable to view. Additionally, you won’t be able to download materials for offline viewing. Additionally, some devices, such as the Apple TV, will not support the advertisements tier.

Ads are a major move for the streaming service as it looks for new revenue streams after losing subscribers for two consecutive quarters earlier this year. (In Q3, subscriber numbers started to improve.) However, Disney Plus will launch an ad-supported option on December 8th for $7.99, which is one dollar more expensive than Netflix’s tier.
