WhatsApp takes another step towards the successful implementation of supporting secondary phones and tablets

WhatsApp has long supported numerous devices, at least when it comes to desktop computers. You can use the messenger on your laptop or computer without having to keep your phone connected to the internet.

People with Android tablets or secondary cellphones, on the other hand, were left out of the party, as the feature was only available on desktop computers. This could change soon, as early indications suggest that the messenger is working on enabling companion Android devices.

WABetaInfo has noticed a new full-screen window informing users who want to register a device as a companion for their main account. . The new WhatsApp section is called “Register Device as Companion,” with an explanation indicating that the feature allows you to use WhatsApp on another device. The view appears to be incomplete, as instructions at the bottom state that you must scan a QR code with your primary WhatsApp smartphone to see what’s presented here.

Attaching the companion device to a different WhatsApp account would delete any current account data on the device if it is already logged into one; users are urged to back up their data if necessary

Last year, we saw the first signs of WhatsApp working on “multi-device 2.0,” which would allow you to sync your messages with multiple Android mobile devices. You’ll get a splash screen during setup, according to early pictures, alerting you that your secondary WhatsApp installation is presently collecting recent messages.

While it was previously unclear whether the feature would be confined to traditional secondary devices like tablets and Chromebooks, fresh information released this week suggests that mobile phones will be supported. WhatsApp may still remove the feature before publishing it in a future version, but things are looking up for now.
