Parag Agarwal, Twitter’s new CEO has shaken the company’s leadership by making an announcement on Wednesday that Rinki Sethi and Peiter Zatko, better known as Mudge, would step down as chief information security officer and head of security, respectively.
A Twitter spokesman confirmed to Protocol that Zatko has already left the company, and Sethi will leave in the next few weeks. Their departure is due to “an assessment of how the organisation was being led and the impact on high priority work,” according to a staff-wide memo received by the New York Times. The company declined to comment further on their departure, citing corporate employment and privacy policies.
Agrawal restructured the leadership team almost immediately after taking over as CEO in December, causing Dantley Davis, the former head of Design, and Michael Montano, the former head of Engineering, to quit.
After a group of young hackers gained access to important public-facing accounts such as Bill Gates’ and Joe Biden’s, as well as many others, both Sethi and Zatko were hired to help update Twitter’s security processes in the fall of 2020. Two former employees are also being investigated by the federal government for snooping for the Saudi Arabian government.
Requests for comment from Sethi and Zatko were unanswered right away.
