With only a few days to the New Year, we’re happy to take a look back at some of the best-selling titles, most-played games, new releases, and more from 2021! We’ve compiled many Best Of lists like we have in prior years, that highlight how fantastic 2021 was for gamers, developers, and all of the games in between. Let’s take a look back at the Best of Steam – 2021 before we discover what 2022 has in store.

So, if you’re looking for a good deal on some of the finest games of the year, check out some of these lists! We recommend reading the comments at the bottom of this page before diving into the lists, as they explain some of the technical criteria used to construct them.
Top Sellers
The Top Sellers list is exactly what it says it is: a look at the top 100 titles on Steam in terms of revenue in 2021. We look at game sales, in-game transactions, and DLC sales for every app on Steam from January 1st, 2021 to December 15th, 2021 to find the total revenue.
It’s interesting to look back and see which games have been recurring champions, as well as peruse the brand new successes that smashed their way to the top, as this is the sixth year we’ve put together the annual Top Sellers list.
In terms of adding titles to the list, 2021 was a successful year for games that made their debut in both the Platinum and overall categories. This year, six games (New World, Valheim, NARAKA: BLADEPOINT, Apex Legends, Battlefield 2042, and Dead by Daylight) made their first appearances in the Platinum category, accounting for more than a third of the whole list. Many of these debuts are new releases for 2021, but a few older games have made it into the top 100, thanks to the developers’ sustained dedication and persistent community support.
Top New Releases
You may have seen monthly lists listing the Top 20 games published each month throughout 2021 if you follow Steam updates throughout the year. We’ve compiled those lists in one convenient location, but we’ve also compiled a top 25 list of new releases for the full year. The list is compiled by taking a look at the thousands of game releases in 2021 and highlighting the Top 25 based on the income produced in the first two weeks after release.
We looked at which months were most represented in the yearly Top 25 for last year’s New Release list. We thought it would be fun to do it again and compare the results. Similar to last year, the autumn season features a slew of very popular top releases, followed by a brief hiatus during the winter months.
Most Played Games
Unlike other lists that are based on commercial success, the Most Played list features games with the most players as of December 15th, 2021. Every game with more than 30,000 participants for the year has been included, and they’ve been divided into buckets based on the number of players they reached. We ignore player surges induced by free weekends, giveaways, and other unusual events, as we did in prior years.
Top Early Access Graduates
The top-selling games that came out of Early Access in 2021 are represented on the Early Access list. This ranking is based on all income collected by any app that exited Early Access between December 15th, 2020, and December 15th, 2021.
Throughout 2021, Early Access remained a popular development model on Steam, with over 1000 games appearing on the platform. This list, on the other hand, is all about the grads, who have all gone a long way since their debuts. Some of them went quickly through their Early Access goals, while others progressed progressively over years of development. Even though each has its path and story, they are all shining examples of the incredible games that Early Access can make.

1. Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2022

The MediaTek Dimensity 9000, Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, and Apple A15 Bionic have all been released, leaving only Samsung’s next-generation flagship chipset to be revealed. But not for long, as Samsung has recently published what appears to be a debut date for the Exynos 2200, its future premium SoC.
Samsung has begun teasing its next flagship smartphone SoC — expected to be called the Exynos 2200 — with a tantalizing tidbit of information: the new chipset will feature a GPU powered by AMD’s rDNA 2 graphics architecture, which is best known for powering next-gen graphics on the Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5, and AMD’s RX 6000-series graphics cards.
Of course, because the Exynos 2200 will be powering a smartphone, next-gen graphics on par with the most powerful consoles and gaming PCs won’t be possible. However, it will very certainly enable some graphics upgrades, as well as any other changes Samsung has planned for its latest flagship SoC.
The Exynos 2200 will most likely power some of Samsung’s most powerful phones in 2022, including the Galaxy S22 and S22 Ultra, as a successor to the Exynos 2100 from 2021.
However, as is customary, phones featuring Samsung’s in-house designs are likely to be limited to international models of the company’s future flagships, with US variants presumably employing Qualcomm’s recently announced Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor instead.
We won’t have to wait long to learn more about the Exynos 2200 (or whatever Samsung names it), as Samsung has promised a formal unveiling on January 11th.
AMD’s CES 2022 press conference will be jam-packed with new developments, and our sources say at least four of them will be on display, including the Ryzen 9 6980HX, Ryzen 9 6900HX, Ryzen 7 6800HX ‘Rembrandt’ APUs, and the Radeon RX 6850M XT discrete graphics processor for notebooks.
While we leaked the first details of AMD’s Ryzen 9 6900HX processor last week, it appears that our source said that the laptop it was set for had a TDP limit. The actual clock speeds are substantially greater, so let’s start with AMD’s Rembrandt APU specifications. All AMD Ryzen 6000H ‘Rembrandt’ APUs have identical core configuration, which includes both Zen 3+ CPU and RDNA 2 GPU cores, as predicted.
AMD Ryzen 6000H ‘Rembrandt’ APUs
AMD’s Ryzen 9 6980HX, Ryzen 9 6900HX, and Ryzen 7 6800H processors will each have eight cores and sixteen threads. These cores are based on the new Zen 3+ architecture, which is an improved version of the Zen 3 core that uses the TSMC 6nm process. With the new process node, AMD will be able to squeeze more power out of its laptop CPUs while maintaining efficiency. The chip will have a total of 16 MB of L3 cache and 4 MB of L2 cache. Those hoping for 3D V-Cache technology on laptops will have to wait for a few more generations.
When it comes to clock speeds, the AMD Ryzen 9 6980HX will be the flagship, with a maximum boost frequency of 5.0 GHz, making it the first Ryzen to do so. The AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX will have a 4.9 GHz max boost clock, while the AMD Ryzen 7 6800H will have a 4.7 GHz peak boost clock. The 6800H will have a typical 35-45W TDP, whereas the ‘HX’ chips will have a TDP of 45W+, with clock speeds varying based on the power/cooling architecture of specific notebooks.
The HX series will also support complete overclocking. AMD appears to be using fast DDR5-4800 memory options with its Ryzen 6000H processors, while the conventional Ryzen 6000U processors will use LPDDR5-5200 memory.
AMD Radeon RX 6850M XT
The Radeon RX 6850M XT, AMD’s latest flagship Radeon RX 6000M GPU, will also be unveiled at CES 2022. According to the information we’ve obtained, the AMD Radeon RX 6850M XT will be an update of the current Radeon RX 6800M, and will most likely use the latest 6nm process node. It will keep the 12 GB GDDR6 RAM and a 192-bit bus interface, as well as the improved Navi 22 GPU. The GPU’s maximum SmartShift power is 175W, whereas the Radeon RX 6800M can handle up to 230W. So the redesigned design has a lot of power-saving features.
In terms of performance, we’re told that thanks to improved clock management and RDNA 2 architecture enhancements, we should expect a 10-15% boost. Stock CPU coolers are rarely used in high-end enthusiast PC designs. If they are installed on a motherboard, it is usually only for a short time until the budget allows for a proper aftermarket replacement. You might be shocked to learn that Intel’s latest series of cooling for select Alder Lake CPUs are fairly capable if you find yourself in this predicament.
NetEase, a Chinese magazine, has obtained Intel’s RM1 heatsink, which is designed for mid-range CPUs. The RS1 heatsinks are intended for low-end applications, whilst the RH1 cooler is intended for more powerful CPUs.
Load testing with a Core i5-12400 CPU at a fan speed of 3,100 RPM at a room temperature of 20 C (68 F) produced temperatures of roughly 73 C (163.4 F). The fan spins at around 1,300 RPM under normal settings and is supposed to be very silent.
If you’re working with a higher-powered, overclocking-friendly K-series processor, this shouldn’t be an issue because Intel doesn’t normally include stock cooling with these chips. You’ll need anything from a reliable third-party provider for that.
I prefer big air-cooled heatsinks with slow-spinning fans that require almost no maintenance, such as those sold by Noctua, but closed-loop liquid cooling systems, as Rob pointed out in his latest build log, are a fantastic alternative.
During Intel’s digital CES show next week, non-K series Alder Lake CPUs are scheduled to be unveiled.
Dani Ceballos has been working on his recovery since returning to Real Madrid after spending the previous two seasons on loan at Arsenal, but he could be on his way to Real Betis once more.
Ceballos began his career at Betis, making his debut in a 1-0 loss against Real Sociedad in April 2014. Ceballos joined Real Madrid for 18 million euros in July 2017 after making 98 appearances for Betis.
Difficult time for Ceballos
Ceballos has not been a success for Real Madrid, but he has been a success for Spain. The 25-year-old was instrumental in Spain’s success at the European Under-21 Championship in 2019 and went on to win a silver medal with La Roja at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, where he suffered an ankle injury.
Now that he’s recovered from his injury, he’ll be seeking to make his first Real Madrid appearance since April 28, 2019, when he faced Rayo Vallecano under Zinedine Zidane.

A Return to Betis
Ceballos has been linked with a return to Betis in recent months, but it does not appear that he will return in the January transfer window. Manuel Pellegrini, the coach of Betis, has previously stated that he does not want any transfers in or out of the window. Ceballos’ previous club is having a fantastic first half of the season and will finish third in LaLiga Santander in 2022.
The situation is also advantageous for Real Madrid, who will be trying to offload the player at the end of the season because he does not appear to be in Carlo Ancelotti’s plans for the remainder of the season. Ceballos’ contract will expire in the summer of 2022.
Spanish salvation
One of the midfielder’s main concerns is that a lack of game time will only serve to isolate him from the national team. Ceballos was called up by Luis Enrique in 2018 but was unable to secure a spot for Spain before the last Olympic Games.

SK Hynix stated today that the first phase of its acquisition of Intel’s NAND and solid-state drive (SSD) business has been completed. On Dec. 22, SK Hynix completed the first phase of the transaction by acquiring Intel’s SSD business and the Dalian NAND flash production plant in China, after merger approval from China’s State Administration for Market Regulation. SK Hynix will give $7 billion in consideration in return.

The remaining assets about Intel’s NAND business, including IP related to the manufacture and design of NAND flash wafers, R&D employees for NAND flash wafers, the Dalian facility workforce, and other associated tangible/intangible assets, will be acquired by SK Hynix in the second phase of the transaction. The second phase is projected to close in or around March 2025, with the final payment of US $2 billion to conclude the transaction.
“Solidigm” will be the name of the newly formed US subsidiary that will oversee the recently acquired SSD business. Solidigm’s commitment to establishing a new solid-state paradigm that provides unsurpassed customer service and revolutionizes the memory storage business is reflected in its name.
Solidago will be based in San Jose, California, and will be responsible for product development, manufacture, and sales for the newly acquired SSD company, which was previously run by Intel. After the first close, Lee Seok-hee, president and co-CEO of SK Hynix, will be named executive chairman of Solidigm and will supervise the post-merger integration activities. Solidago will be led by Rob Crooke, a former senior vice president of Intel.
SK Hynix, Solidigm, and Intel will work together to bring the agreement to a successful conclusion. SK Hynix sees an opportunity to raise its NAND Flash business to the same level of competitiveness as its world-leading DRAM business since SK Hynix shines in mobile NAND flash and Solidigm excels in enterprise SSDs (eSSDs). SK Hynix will be able to benefit from the merged company portfolio’s synergy.
Park Jung-ho, SK Hynix’s vice chairman and co-CEO, stated, “I’d like to extend a warm welcome to the new Solidigm team members. This acquisition will mark a turning point in SK Hynix’s NAND flash business, propelling it into the global top tier. With this acquisition, SK Hynix will take another step toward becoming a global first-tier technology firm”.
