It’s sad news for Indian fans as the newly appointed vice-captain Rohit Sharma won’t be playing for the three-test match series against South Africa, due to his injury. It is expected that Priyank Chahal is the substitute player for Rohit Sharma.

As per reports BCCI has announced that Priyank Panchal replaced Rohit Sharma in India’s Test squad. Rohit had a left hamstring injury during his training session in Mumbai on Sunday. He has been ruled out of the upcoming 3-match Test series against South Africa.

Ajinkya Rahane will be taking on the role of vice-captaincy for the Test series. BCCI is yet to confirm officially though Rohit Sharma was elevated to the Test vice-captaincy, Rahane got removed from the position ahead of the South Africa series.

BCCI stated that it was a hamstring injury and there were reports that Rohit Sharma suffered a bow in his hand. As per a PTI report, Rohit Sharma was given the role of vice-captain, winced in pain.

As per the source, “There are some issues with his hand but the medical team is trying to sort it out,”

A BCCI official had informed Panchal who scored 96 in an A test match against South Africa A and has been called a cover.

The official informed “Panchal has been asked to report at the Mumbai team hotel tonight. He is there as a cover for Rohit. Also because he recently played in South Africa and scored runs, he was asked to join,” the official informed.
