Carabao Cup Round 4 played out to a conclusion with Manchester City getting knocked out for the first time since 2016

The last eight of the Carabao Cup has been decided after the remaining fixtures were played yesterday. Title holders Manchester City have been knocked out for the first time in four years.

Pep Guardiola has won the League Cup for the past four seasons, but we will have a new winner this year. West Ham United knocked out the holders on penalties, with Phil Foden missing the only spot kick for City. West Ham took all their penalties successfully, and Said Benrahma took the final penalty to win the shootout.

While City were knocked out, their rivals Liverpool progressed to the last eight. A scorpion kick goal from Divock Origi and a strike from Takumi Minamino made it 2-0. The heavily rotated side did enough to beat Preston and advance.

Tottenham defeated Burnley 1-0, after Lucas Moura scored as a substitute. The finalists of last year have made it to the last eight once again.

Leicester City had to win a penalty shootout to eliminate Brighton. Graham Potter’s team equalised Leicester’s two-goal lead, but were unable to beat them in the shootout.

Lastly, Brentford defeated Stoke City 2-1 to earn a spot in the quarter finals. Goals from Ivan Toney and Sergi Canos were enough to dispatch the Potters. Here is the complete list of clubs progressing to the quarter finals of the Carabao Cup:

  • Chelsea
  • Tottenham Hotspur
  • West Ham United
  • Leicester City
  • Brentford
  • Liverpool
  • Arsenal
  • Sunderland

The draws for the quarter finals will be announced on Saturday. The date for the  fixtures will also be revealed when the matchups are confirmed.
