Adata announces its SE920 SSD which will be one of the fastest in the market with a USB4 interface

Adata is known for its amazing performance and the company recently announced its new SE920 external SSD, which will be the company’s first external drive with a USB4 interface. The company has also promised that its new and upcoming drive will be offering up to 4000 MB/s sequential read speed.

After the launch of this SSD, it will be one of the industry’s fastest external storage devices designed for consumers and will even outperform any external SSD with a USB 3.x or Thunderbolt 3/4 interface in terms of sequential read speed.

According to sources, Adata will also be offering its SE920-series drives in a different version that features different capacities, however, those details have been kept a secret by the company. The OEM has also not disclosed any information regarding the architecture of the SE920 drive through Adata has stated that its upcoming SSD uses its proprietary Heat Conduction technology to that ensure appropriate cooling and consistent performance.

Looking at all its offerings, Adata’s SE920 drives is easily going to be among the fastest portable storage devices coming with a Thunderbolt 3/4 and USB4 interface which will be arriving later this year. These days most of the SSDs available in the market with a TB3 interface integrate a previous-generation SSD with a PCIe Gen3 interface. And this cannot saturate a TB3 bus that supports non-video bandwidth of up to 32.4 Gbps, or 4.05 GB/s.

As well as a TB3 uses an 8b/10b encoding with a rather high overhead, and its usable bandwidth is about 25.92 Gbps or 3.24 Gbps. So theoretically, an entry-level drive with a PCIe 4.0 x4 interface can easily hit a 4 GBps throughput which easily beats TB3. It all means that the SE920 will be integrating an NVMe M.2 SSD, a PCIe-to-USB4 bridge, and a USB4 chip which is responsible for power delivery support.

There is no announcement made about the pricing of Adata’s SE920 external SSDs with a USB4 interface, however, since it’s going to be one of the fastest SSD in the market, we can expect it to be of premium quality.
