Real Madrid’s stance on Haaland transfer

Real Madrid have emerged as the favourites to sign Erling Haaland this summer since the player himself has apparently come out and said that he prefers Madrid to Barcelona. This was apparently communicated to Madrid’s executive director Jose Angel Sanchez by Alf Inge Haaland during their meeting in the city.

The report comes from Spanish media outlet Diario AS, who further go on to say that Madrid will not pay an astronomical fee for Haaland, which is in the bracket of €150-175 million. That sort of transfer fee is reserved for their pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe.

According to AS, the 13-time Champions League winners are only willing to negotiate a fair price for Haaland, and will not pay €150 million for the Norwegian forward this summer. This also ties into the player’s release clause, a sum worth €75 million, which kicks in starting from 2022.

Borussia Dortmund are not planning on selling the player this summer, and have made that clear to Mino Raiola as well. But that has only prompted the super agent to go ahead and talk with all the interested clubs. The Schwarzgelben lost to Eintracht Frankfurt at home today, and that only adds more pressure on their chances of qualifying for the Champions League next season.

If Dortmund do not qualify for the Champions League next season, then we could see them ultimately end up selling Haaland to raise funds.
