Marcos Rojo leaves Manchester United for free and joins Boca Juniors

Manchester United outcast Marcos Rojo sealed a move back to Argentina through a free transfer recording to Fabrizio Romano on his Twitter account.

The Argentinian has barely featured in the last few years for Manchester United and was entering the last six months of his contract at Old Trafford. United had the option to either terminate his contract immediately or could have him on their books for another six months and then still lose for free to Boca juniors.

“Marcos Rojo has completed his transfer to Boca Juniors,” United said in a statement.

“The 30-year-old will return to his homeland on a permanent basis, after agreeing terms with the reigning Argentinian champions.”

Rojo spent the latter half of the 19/20 season with Estudiantes and is now back in Argentina with a legendary club, with tons of history behind them. Boca Juniors were the only club in the race for the player, and have now got their man.

At 30, Rojo brings a decent amount of experience at the top level of the sport, having competed in Europe’s top leagues with the best clubs. The defender has been contracted to the English club since 2014, having joined from Sporting Lisbon and has made 122 appearances for United.

It will be a while before Rojo can get back to action, though, since he is currently out with a calf injury.
