When the Surface Pro X was originally introduced back in 2019, we had a lot of promise from this device, however, it did not live up to the expectation. Although it looked great and had something unique to it but the price hikes and app compatibility issues made the Surface Pro X a flop in its Surface Pro lineup.

Now, according to Windows Central, Microsoft will unveil the 2nd generation of the new Surface Pro X alongside a new Surface Laptop possibly with AMD APU in October.

So, the new Surface Pro X will feature the custom Microsoft SQ2 processor which should inherit a lot of similarities seen on the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx Gen2 SoC. The new chipset should offer improved performance over last year’s “not-so-convincing” Microsoft SQ1 chip.

Microsoft launches new Surface Pro X with 7W Surface SQ1 chipset at $999

In terms of design, there shouldn’t be any major overhaul, however, there will be a new “platinum” color option along with new Type Cover colors. So, Microsoft will bring the same color options that it offers with its other Surface Pro devices for both the device itself and Type Covers.

Maybe this could be an indication of the fact that their “prototype device” from last year will finally go mainstream with key improvements in terms of performance & usability. One of the biggest issues most users faced with the Surface Pro X definitely was the fact that these ARM-based processors could emulate only 32-bit apps on Windows 10.

Now, this obviously raised a lot of concern and “app problems” for most enthusiastic users who tried this unique device. But this time, Microsoft will fix this with the new SQ2 chip that will be based on 64-bit and if Microsoft uses the 64-bit app-emulation, this new Surface Pro X 2020 could be a choice for many. Also as this a hybrid device, you can actually expect 5G as well, but as for now, it’s not sure.
