El Clasico is one of the most popular football matches on the planet with the highest number of viewers. It is just around the corner and things have already started heating up.
Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos revealed his admiration for one of football’s greatest talents Lionel Messi. But Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois decided to spice things up before the El Clasico with some more hostile comments.
Courtois said, as reported by Eleven Sports: “Do I think of Messi before this Clasico? No, not really. It was the case during my first season with Atlético Madrid, especially when you play Camp Nou for the first time, with all these stars. At that moment, if you don’t think about it, it is because something is wrong with you.”
“But today, I don’t think about it anymore. For me, Messi, he is a player like any other. Nightmares because of him? No, never (laughs). We studied him as we study a player from Celta Vigo or Levante. There is no difference.”
Barcelona quickly responded to Courtois’ comments and published a video on Twitter. The video contains a compilation of all the goals Lionel Messi has scored against Courtois.

Messi has scored 9 goals with 3 of those being nutmeg goals against the Belgium international during his spells with Atletico Madrid, Chelsea and Real Madrid.
The Barcelona captain was back at his prolific best in his last LaLiga outing. He scored four goals against Eibar. With the form he is in, it looks like Courtois is going to repent his words.
Barcelona are currently on top of LaLiga. They have a 2 point advantage over Real Madrid. This match will be crucial for the LaLiga title race.
